Background:

St Bernadette Catholic Secondary School is a few miles from the centre of Bristol. Apart from subject classrooms the specialist accommodation includes a large assembly hall, four science laboratories with preparation areas, an attractive food technology room and a complete new technology block. The school has converted an old shed into a splendid drama studio and is fortunate in winning funding for new music rooms and an excellent suite of rooms for art. Recently developed areas include a business studies suite and an area called the learning zone, which includes an attractive library and a very fine information and communication technology suite. The pupils enjoy the benefit of having a small chapel/prayer room. The school has a strong sporting tradition and is provided with playing fields, pitches and netball/tennis courts. Activities vary from year to year depending on the interests of the pupils and staff but there are always exciting events including music and drama productions. Opportunities exist for youngsters to learn a musical instrument or to join a choir. The school enjoys a formidable sporting reputation and many students participate in team and individual games. A number of clubs and societies run during lunchtime, offering a wide range of choices, which include computing, drama, French, library, prayer group, public debating and wildlife. There are annual field trips and educational visits as well as regular visits overseas. The school participates fully in the Bristol Achievers' Award. The school aims to provide a stimulating and caring environment within a strong Christian context.
