Background:

Speedwell Technology College is a secondary school and sixth form for boys and girls. The age range of the pupils is 11 to 18. The city's first Technical College, each faculty has its own specific teaching area, many of which have been recently refurbished. There is now a purpose-built Sixth Form building and standards are rising, with specific excellence in areas of music, along with local sporting achievement. The school has close community links, especially with prospective employers. Furthermore there is good communication with parents via a weekly newsletter. Pupils successes are encouraged and celebrated and a system of rewards are highly valued by the students. The college facilitates a wide range of extra-curricular activities including: hockey, netball, gymnastics, trampolining, tennis, rounders, dance, badminton, football, rugby, basketball, orienteering, athletics, tennis, softball and health related fitness. The college aims to provide for the acquisition of and the ability to apply knowledge, skills and concepts appropriately and effectively in a variety of movement-related tasks and situation.
