Background:
Founded in 1899, the school shares a site with the neighbouring infant school and serves the urban communities of Horfield and Ashley Down in north-central Bristol. It has an active parent-teachers association which, over recent years, has raised funds to develop the playground imaginatively into quiet and busy areas. There is no attached playing field but Bristol Rovers FC, a few minutes walk from the school, allows the school to use its facilities. Despite the restrictions imposed by an older building, the staff deliver a 'dynamic curriculum' with extra-curricular clubs including choir, recorder, French, art, internet, football, cricket, netball, roudners, gymnastics and lacemaking.
