The school was opened in 1955 as one of the city's first comprehensive schools, and has maintained a reputation for promoting many aspects of success, and for providing a supportive learning environment. The school offers an extensive range of facilities, which are currently benefiting from very significant investment: these include well equipped classrooms, specialist areas in science, English, music, art, drama and technology.
